About Lead Time

Editor, Lead Time

Lead Time is a publication about thinking ahead. The homes we live in now, the homes we might want later, and the choices in between.

I write it because there's a gap between the information available about aging-in-place housing and the kind of reflection most people actually need. Technical resources and renovation cost calculators are easy to find. Finding honest, structured ways to think about whether a home will support a person's next twenty years is more difficult.

Most of what I write here is drawn from the time I spent working as a REALTOR® and Seniors Real Estate Specialist® in Calgary, where much of my practice involved clients in or approaching retirement. That work taught me what to look for in a home, what to ask, and what the answers tend to mean over time. I no longer work as a real estate agent so that I can focus on the Lead Time newsletter, but the thinking that my previous job gave me is what fills these pages.

The newsletter exists to share that thinking with people who would rather decide earlier than later. They like to plan ahead, with plenty of lead time.

Free guide

Lead Time arrives once a week and it is free to read. The signup page also carries the Aging-in-Place Home Walk-Through, a structured set of questions for noticing what often goes unnoticed: whether a home, yours or one you are considering, could support independent living for the next twenty years or more.
